Seeking

I love how God is turning my words more and more towards Him. The idea begins as one thing, but as I search out what God wants to say through me, and as I turn to His words, it morphs into something so much more than what I could share on my own.

This little punkin is one of my best friend’s sons. He was searching the backyard for rocks and smashing them to find the crystals and jewels hidden inside. I love his joy! So I was going to write about finding joy in all of the little things in life. But God. Again, He has more for me, for us, today.

He whispered “What happens when you search for me the way you were going to write about searching for joy in everyday living?”

So into His word I dove and here’s what I found. Some pretty amazing things.

First, when we search for God, we find Him! Simple but what a great promise! If we seek Him, if we are looking for Him, he is there waiting to be found! Ready for us! Yearning for us! Thank you, Jesus, for always being there when I search for You!

There are SO MANY verses with the promise of when we seek God, we will find Him!

Another amazing reason to seek God is that he promises to provide for us! Look at these verses from Matthew chapter six:

31 “So then, forsake your worries! Why would you say, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear?’ 32 For that is what the unbelievers chase after. Doesn’t your heavenly Father already know the things your bodies require?

33 “So above all, constantly seek God’s kingdom and his righteousness, then all these less important things will be given to you abundantly.

I love that God considers what we eat, drink, and wear the “less important things.” The world will teach us that those are the necessities in life… and they are basic human needs. But to God, before those needs, should be Him! When we seek Him, search for Him, and live for Him, He promises to meet those needs… and not just meet them but give them to us abundantly!

And another verse to emphasize that God is ready and willing to meet our needs, this time from the book of Psalms…

Reason number 3 to seek God daily is personal for me as someone who struggles with an anxiety disorder. When we seek God, we do not need to be afraid! God is more than able to calm our fears, give us peace, release anxiety, and provide comfort.

I’ll be honest – I take medicine to help with my anxiety. But medicine is not an end all, be all. I still struggle – and I’ll take the medicine for as long as I need it. I believe God can, will, and does help our mental struggles but God has also placed doctors on Earth and has given us modern day medicine to help as well. So – for me – both.

Like I said, though, even with medicine I still have my bad days! And God promises that when I seek Him, he will rescue me from my fears, He will help me in those times, He will fight for me in those battles! Thank you, Jesus!

Some of my favorite songs right now about how when we praise God and worship Him, the enemy flees and we gain victory. One particular line says “My weapon is a melody!” Yes! I seek God through my worship, I fight battles with songs of praise, and God is there to meet me and help me and rescue me from my fears!

How about one final reason for today?

How does happiness sound?

Let those who seek the Lord…. be happy. Filled with Joy! Exuberant! Yes, please!

So as a little boy seeks for treasures in rocks, let us seek God with all of our hearts! And in return, may we find Him, gain peace and comfort, thank Him for our needs being constantly met, and revel in the happiness that comes from Him!

Thank you, Jesus, for this Monday!
