To my friends who love Jesus but struggle with anxiety and depression
Today is for you, not just you as this message applies to anyone who loves Jesus, but today you are on my heart. You are on my heart because we are the same. Because this is my struggle, too.
This picture popped back in my memories and spurred this post.
“Keep shining, beautiful one, the world needs your light.”
This quote could be taken many ways, such as we all have something to share with the world, we all bring something unique, the world needs all of us, etc. And all of that is true. But today, I felt it in a different way. I heard a different message. Today, I read it and thought of the Light of Jesus and how we carry His light in a dark world.
In fact, we could change the quote to say, “Keep shining, beautiful one, the world needs His Light.”
Anyone who believes in Jesus has His light in them and we are called to shine in the dark world we live in. Our lives should show people Jesus. When people see our kindness, we want them to see Jesus. When people feel our love, it should lead back to Jesus.
I love, love, love the way its put in the message bible:
14-16 “Here’s another way to put it: You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We’re going public with this, as public as a city on a hill. If I make you light-bearers, you don’t think I’m going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I’m putting you on a light stand. Now that I’ve put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand—shine! Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you’ll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven.Matthew 5:14-16 MSG
We are here to be light-bearers! God has put us on a hilltop and told us to shine! How? Be generous with your lives, open up to others, and love. Love! Shine with the love of Jesus.
When we are struggling with anxiety and everything, and I do mean everything, takes effort, we can still shine for Jesus. We can give a kind word, help someone out, hit “share” on that positive post on Facebook, send a worship song to a friend, or just show up. And keep showing up. And when people wonder how you do it… Jesus. You are the light. You are shining.
When you are stuck in your own depression, but you pray for someone else. You are shining.
When you are willing to be a listening ear, a hand on a shoulder, a hug… You are shining.
When you invite someone to church, when you are kind even though others are not, when you choose not to indulge in gossip… you are shining.
There are so many ways to shine and you are so capable of shining for Jesus, even if you don’t see it. Your struggles, your anxiety, and your depression do not invalidate God’s work in your life. It doesn’t stop His light from shining.
So keep going. Keep putting one foot in front of the other during the hard times.
And while the world 100% does need you and everything YOU bring to the table, it also needs the light of Jesus that shines from you daily.
So keep shining, beautiful one. Let those sunbeams come forth, big and small. God is reaching the dark corners with you. God is using you to shine light on others who need it. And it just may be your testimony they need to see and hear to meet Jesus. Keep shining. Keep going. Keep loving and living.
You are beautiful and the world needs His Light.
Happy Thursday, friends.
