Because I Can

I love this picture and quotes from my Dad and my daughter. My dad is a firm believer in focusing on the good, the positive, the things you want and bringing them into your life and he teaches that to my punkin as well.

This was one of those moments where you go, ahhh she’s getting it. πŸ™‚

When my dad asked “Why are you going to have a good day?” He meant, what’s going on today that will make it good?

But my daughter was just planning on having a good day because, well, why not?

Most days are like this… most days are what we make of them. The regular average day is filled with things that go right and things that go wrong. Things that give us the chance to pause and smile and be thankful and also things that give us the chance to grumble, complain, or turn grouchy.

Each day is full of both.

So what will you choose to focus on today? The one you focus on, you will notice more. Not that more of the good or bad is happening, but whichever you are thinking on… whichever you are leaning towards – happy or grumpy – you will notice more things to make you either happy or grumpy.

It’s like when we say “everything that could go wrong today, did!” and it could even be true. But if you are adding up all the things that go wrong, checking them off, using them as reasons to stay a grump, then you will notice every little thing – things that may not even bother you on a regular day.

On the flip side, if you make a conscious effort to notice all the good things – every little thing – you will end the day thinking it was the best day you’ve had in a long time…. even though nothing in particular made it that way.

What kinds of things can we notice? Enjoy?

  • That first sip of coffee… and the last.
  • The sunrise
  • How comfortable your bed is when you wake up.
  • The fact you woke up?? πŸ™‚
  • The nice drive to work
  • The person who let you cut in traffic
  • The green lights you hit just at the right time
  • The neighbor that waved with a smile
  • Getting to work on time and having a few extra minutes
  • Someone holding a door open for you
  • Hugs from friends and family
  • A great song on the radio
  • A delicious lunch
  • Perfect timing.. for whatever
  • How good a stretch feels

Ok I’m going to stop because I need to get m punkin up for the day but really, be looking for happy, calm, and peaceful moments on purpose today. Add them all up. Keep a running tally in your head of the good little things rather than the bad.

And at the end of the day, when someone says how was your day and you reply good, and they ask why…. you just answer because you could!
