Kindness, Goodness, & Magic

Where there is kindness, there is goodness, and where there is goodness, there is magic. – Cinderella

Once upon a time, my daughter decided she wanted to spread love to the world. She colored dozens of pictures – then picked them up from the hotel as we were getting ready to head to Disney World.

“What are you doing with those? We’re going to Disney.” I asked.

“Yes, Mommy. I’m going to hand them out to lots of people. Just to make people happy.”

Off we went, love in our hearts, and smiles for everyone. She did just as she planned and passed them out to many cast members. “This is for you,” she’d say. Nothing more, nothing less.

She was met with smiles and hugs and joy filled gratitude.

Sometimes the smallest acts have the biggest impact. We don’t have to be amazing and have huge plans to change the world. One small kind act is all it takes. Multiply that by dozens, and by days, and months, and years… not to mention the ripple effect of each small gesture.

Yes, the smallest things are so valuable and important.

How long do you think those smiles my daughter gave lasted? Just a moment? That would be enough. A smile every time that day that the recipient looked at it? Lingering thoughts of happiness as they retold the story that night of a random little girl handing out pictures at Disney World?

Not that it matters. That day my daughter spread magic in the most magical place on Earth. We can do the same every day – the smiles we give, the time we take to greet each other. Holding doors, writing notes of encouragement, sending silly messages just to make someone smile. A listening ear, a prayer sent on someone’s behalf, a shoulder to lean on.

The opportunities are endless.

So be kind. Spread goodness today, and create Magic.
